Observations

To book an Observation, please phone Administration on (08) 9417 4060.

Please note that Observations do not occur on Fridays, as well as the first two weeks of term and the last week. If you book an observation during these times or during the school holidays, we will contact you to arrange another suitable time for your Observation.

We also do not allow Observations in classrooms with a new student or teacher. This is to allow them to really settle in to their classrooms.

Observation Guidelines

Please turn off your mobile before entering the classroom.

Please plan to observe for a minimum of 20 minutes to experience a true feeling of the classroom.

A chair will be provided for you in the classroom. In order to see the classroom as it normally operates, it is important to remain as unobtrusive and quiet around the children as possible. Do not move your chair unless the teacher indicates you to do so. We value a calm learning environment.

Children are naturally curious and may engage you in conversation. A simple ‘hello’ is acceptable. If they are persistent, smile and quietly let them know that you are there to watch them work. Bow your head to this guideline and tell them ‘this is my work; I am here to watch children work.’ Please do not encourage conversation.

Please respect the other children’s confidentiality and do not discuss individuals and their behaviours with other parents.

Kindly remember that the teacher’s responsibility is with the children. Please make a written note of any questions or comments as they arise. You may send an email to the school for the attention of the teacher to discuss your questions during your parent/teacher consultation.
